Protecting ancient forests is crucial to reduce the
emission of greenhouse gases, preserve global
biodiversity, and protect the livelihoods of millions
of forest peoples.
Tropical forest destruction is responsible for
approximately one fifth of global greenhouse gas
emissions, more emissions than from the world's
entire transport sector.
If we are going to prevent dangerous climate
change, we must have a global effort to end the
destruction of forests as well as a revolution in
the way we produce and use energy.
