GRIPP (Green Renewable Independent Power Producer, Inc.)
GRIPP

GRIPP is the lead proponent of the Climate Friendly Cities / Electric Jeepneys project.

GRIPP initially grew out of the cooperation between the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC) and Greenpeace Southeast Asia. The partnership aimed to initiate a multi-stakeholder input to develop a package of lower cost energy efficiency resources and renewable energy resources delivered to the grid that can compete with traditional fossil-fuel power resource options as a power sector solution for developing countries. GRIPP is now a collaborative project of Greenpeace , the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement (PRRM), and the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC), with the participation of Solar Electric Co. Inc. and Preferred Energy Inc. GRIPP has been endorsed by the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, provincial electric cooperatives, the DOE, and the Philippine Inter-agency Committee on Climate Change.

GRIPP seeks to demonstrate that renewable energy need not necessarily be small-scale power projects but can also be cleaner alternatives to on-grid fossil fuel based power plants. By demonstrating that a mix of energy options linked to the local economy and livelihood generation such as biomass co-generation plants and wind farms for on-grid applications, off-grid electrification and energy efficiency will demonstrate that there is no need for fossil fuel power plants.
