What are the significant features of the project?
The Climate Friendly Cities project straddles two service industries of the pilot area (public transportation and municipal solid waste management) with the introduction of technologies that utilize clean energy. It is part of the basket of renewable energy initiatives that can be utilized by cities as envisioned by GRIPP.
The project components are:
a)a fleet of 50 electric jeepneys called E-Jeepneys, each with a capacity of twelve (12) passengers;
b)a depot that will serve as charging station and maintenance center for the fleet as well as a project information center; and
c)a power plant consisting of a generator, and a high solid anaerobic digester and a gas engine.
In the future, the RE-based power plant can also be sourced from other non-traditional renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.
