Can the Climate Friendly Cities project be replicated in other places?
The main objective of the project is to demonstrate the viability and feasibility of the project as a whole and of the various components in all aspects (technically, economically, environmentally and socially speaking). Once the project is successful, our hope is that the project is replicated in other cities here in the Philippines and around Asia.
There is much potential in the replication of this project. Asia’s cities have some of the highest levels of air pollution in the world, some reaching alarming levels. The poor air quality is not only causing health problems, it is also putting a strain on finances and clouding economic prospects. There is also widespread health warnings due to increased cases of bronchitis, pneumonia and asthma especially amongst children who are the most vulnerable to particulate matters.
A good measure of success for this project is if local jeepney industries are able to develop their own manufacturing base for these electric jeepneys.
At present, with the initial E-Jeepneys to undergo the test phase, the goal is to show that this can work in places like Makati and Bacolod.
