Suggesting a shift in the structure of energy sources, the President stressed the need to minimise the imports of fossil fuel. "Energy Independence has to be our nation's first and highest priority. We must be determined to achieve this within the next 25 years, therefore by the year 2030, said the President.
Something, which Greenpeace has been saying all along not only in India, but across the Globe, seeking countries to tap its rich renewable energy potentials with the view of not just energy independence but also from saving the fragile earth from the impacts of climate change, a major factor of it being burning of fossil fuels.
The effects of climate change on human health, eco-systems, food production, water resources, small islands and low lying coastal areas are likely worsen in the immediate future. In the case of human health, threats particularly in lower income populations, predominantly within tropical/ subtropical countries are projected to increase. Also in most tropical and subtropical regions yields in agriculture are projected to decrease.
Overall, climate change is expected to negatively impact development, sustainability and equity. As it happens, the impacts of climate change will fall disproportionately on developing countries and the poor persons within all countries. This is likely to accentuate inequities in health status and access to adequate food, clean water and other resources. The increased exposures of populations in developing countries to relatively high risks of adverse impacts from climate change and their low capacity to adapt combine to make populations in developing countries generally more vulnerable than populations in developed countries
Greenpeace is asking you to take part in an energy revolution. To go from a world powered by nuclear and fossil fuels to one running on renewable energy to provide sustainable development and energy for all.
